This dress was made by John Barker & Co from Famous Kensington High Street in west London. This area is one of western London's most popular shopping streets, with upmarket shops serving a wealthy area. John Barker & Co more or less owned Kensington High Street in the late 1800's till about 1957 when it was bought by the House of Frasier. If you want to read more about John Barker please click here.

This gown is still very sturdy and can definitely be worn, but keep in mind it is an antique so only lady like behavior, no trampoline jumping. This dress has so much pleats and detail work that I would guess it probably belonged to a wealthy person.

It is made in a beautiful buttery golden ivory/cream silk duchess satin. Trimmed with pleats, gathered fabrics, sashes and lots of gorgeous delicate lace. The hem has several layers of lace and knife pleated trim. The dress also has an attached petticoat with a unique built in bustle with boning at the back with two ties. A small hole at the side in the petticoat, please see picture. A mother of pearl buckle holds the sash up. As you can see in the picture there are some minor holes where the "teeth" of the buckle attaches to the fabric and clip. This dress also has some minor faint underarm stains and a small hole under the right arm. Some of the boning is also missing. these are the only faults I could find with the dress. Please see all the pictures. I have added lots of pictures so you can get a good look at how beautiful this dress is. As you can see my dress form was a tad bit busty and I couldn't close the front completely*smile*
